Frictions

Friction knots (留め縄 - Tomenawa) are irregular knots used in situations involving friction, tension, or changes in direction of ropes. Because these knots are not complete knots and do not form a fixed bond, they are practical and convenient to use. They are also used for maintaining the knot and for decorative purposes.

Practical Tips

You can gain a better understanding and improve yourself by practicing the following or similar techniques.

360 friction

Wrap your rope completely around the other rope to form a shape.

Reverse Tension

Create a shape by pulling your rope back and forth between the two ropes.

Improve your skills.

  • Experiment with different types of rope. See which rope provides the best hold.
  • Experiment with different techniques in a random way to increase your speed.
  • Try to see how quickly you can solve it.
  • Understand how many steps are needed for each friction knot.
