In the project "Imposed Body," initiated by the ShibariTürk team and carried out with volunteer models and photographers, we can see the integration of shibari with the ways in which non-normative bodies exist.
“Birth, life, death… From the first pangs of labor to their last breath, we depict with ropes all the situations people face, sometimes confronting them, sometimes trying to escape them, sometimes fighting them, sometimes coming to terms with them; norms, pressures, and all the situations encountered in the cycle of existence.”.
Every form of existence, every body is unique… Queer existences, drag queens, trans people, women, fat people, and many more… Norms are imposed on our ways of being; the roles we must conform to appear like laws throughout our lives, dominating us. Against the unbearable baseness of normativity, we tried to visualize what we believe in, our politics, in this project.
“Imposed Body” was used as a tool to visualize our modes of existence physically, mentally, and sensually; it attempted to create images that depicted external and internal interventions on bodies.
In our project, where we combined body positivity and shibari, we wove the path to equality with ropes. We were reminded once again that each of us is unique in our diversity, and we drew motivation from the ropes as our means of communication. We were affirmed, we were equalized, we were connected…”
“The "Imposed Body" project team shares their inspiration and motivation in this way. The project's photo exhibition is planned to take place both digitally (online exhibition) and in a physical setting. A printed booklet containing all the photographs is also being prepared for the project's followers. Stay tuned for more information about the exhibition and further details.
