In relationship dynamics, a collar is used as a symbol of submission and belonging. In some communities or relationships, a collar is given through a formal collaring ceremony. This ceremony signifies that the person wearing the collar (the submissive/slave) has effectively entered a BDSM lifestyle and their new position in your life. It also symbolizes a long-term D/S relationship. However, this ceremony or ritual is not a universally accepted or practiced tradition. Wearing a collar and claiming ownership does not mean the training is complete. It indicates that the person has completed general and basic training, acquired certain skills, and that the process is still ongoing.

Before a person is officially fitted with a collar, they may be given different collars at certain stages during their training program. These include:;

  1. Protective Collar;
  2. Collar of Consideration,
  3. Training Collar,
  4. Task Collar
  5. Official Collar (slave collar) and
  6. Scene Leash.

Initially, the submissive/slave is fitted with a protective or attention collar, and after being accepted into training, a training collar is given. Once basic training is complete, they transition to a formal collar. It is often common practice for a person to sign a training or ownership contract before receiving a training collar. This contract contains details that the Master and the submissive/slave will fill out together. Details regarding collaring are usually also included in the contract. The vast majority of Masters do not use collars during training, and this is purely optional.

Most Commonly Used Collars

Protective Collar

The protective collar is exactly what its name suggests. This collar, of the S-type, indicates that the dog is under the protection of a master and has just begun its training process. These are the first steps in the process.

Assessment Collar

The slave spends limited time in the master's presence, during which he must be relaxed but attentive. While not permanent, it indicates that the slave is still being evaluated.

Training Collar;

This collar is usually offered by a master when a slave is accepted for training. It is common for the slave to reject the collar at this stage or wish to renegotiate the terms.

Official Collar;

This is the final stage where the slave's training is complete and they are accepted. Accepting this collar demonstrates the slave's complete loyalty and obedience to their master.

Scene Leash

This leash is a functional leash generally used during what we call Scene, or D/S (Dynamic/Sports) practice sessions. It can be used solely for play or, more generally, it's optional.
