What is Vaketa Leather?

What makes vegetable tanning so unique is that it can be used to make thicker leather. Vegetable-tanned leather also tends to age better and develops a richer finish over time.

We hand-dye natural vachetta leather in our products to give them their final form. The dyed leather hardens slightly as it absorbs the dye, but over time, it becomes beautiful and soft with use.

Sığır ham derileri öncelikle ıslatma ve yumuşatma işlemine alınarak kaybettikleri nem içeriğine (%65-70) kavuşturulur. Bu işlem pervaneli teknelerde gerçekleştirilir. Ardından ham deriler kıl kiderme ve kireçlik işlemine alınırlar. Bu işlemde derilere kireç ve zırnık kimayasaları verilerek, deri yüzeyindeki kıllar uzaklaştırılır ve deri bünyesinde, tabaklayıcı, boyayıcı ve lubricant The process involves exposing the ends of the pliable fibers that can bind to the materials. This is called tola development. Then, the hides undergo a descaling process in leather processing cabinets to remove lime. After descaling, the samming process begins. In this process, proteolytic enzymes are applied to the hides to remove soluble proteins.

Next, the hides are treated in a tanning chamber with a vegetable tanning agent: ground oak acorn tanning, derived from oak trees. This process is repeated three times, and the hides are removed from the chambers with vegetable tanning. After this process, the washed hides are shaved to remove excess skin from the surface. The hides are then hung to dry, and fish oil or vegetable oil is applied to the skin on a marble slab. After this drying process, the hides are soaked in water to soften them, then pressed for a day. They are polished on marble to open them up. The hides are then thinned again by fine shaving, softened by passing them through cork, dyed to the desired color, polished, and made ready for use.
