The Figure 8 is used to secure several ropes arranged in parallel or a single webbing rope. Since Kinbaku is performed with a double row of ropes, the Figure 8 friction is frequently used. Its purpose is to wrap the free-moving rope around the main webbing rope after a knot, eliminating friction, slack, and stretching. For a secure Figure 8, it is necessary to pass it through a taut webbing rope.
