  • Safe: Measures should be taken to identify and prevent health risks.
  • Rational/Sensible (Sane): Activities, practices, and scenes should be conducted within a sensible and rational framework.
  • Consent: All activities must involve the full consent of all parties involved. However, keep in mind that even with consent, criminal proceedings may be initiated for any physical or mental injury under different national laws.

Definition

Safe, sane, and consensual (SSC) is one of the philosophies surrounding ethically acceptable behaviors within BDSM, kinky, and alternative sexuality communities. Safe means that the risk of the activity should be understood by all participants and eliminated or reduced as much as possible. Sane means approaching the activities/practices within a rational and realistic framework of mind, and understanding the difference between fantasy and reality. Consent means that all participants freely consent to the activity.

SSC, BDSM topluluğu dışında olanlar tarafından en iyi bilinen ilkedir. Günümüzde popüler kültürün ana unsurlarından biri haline gelmiştir. BDSM ilgilisi olmayanlar tarafından bile bilinen en yaygın terimdir.  RACK felsefesinin ortaya çıkmasının ardından, SSC’nin kullanışlılığı BDSM ilgilileri ve akademisyenler tarafından sorgulanmıştır.
