Suspension

Shibari Türkiye, Shibari İstanbul görsel 11

Partial suspension is defined as a situation where a person is suspended while maintaining some contact with the ground. In this position, any part of the body is partially suspended, and any part of the body is in contact with the ground.

Full suspension means the body is completely disconnected from the ground, with the entire body suspended against gravity. In this position, no part of the body makes contact with the ground. These are high-risk scenarios that we call edge plays.

Suspension is also used as a form of therapy and yoga practice. The primary effect of suspension is the emergence of feelings of falling, heightened vulnerability, and inevitability that the person experiencing it feels when released. In certain situations and scenes, suspension also creates a feeling of freedom with elements such as a sensation of flying and a high release of endorphins. Trance-like states, alternatively or simultaneously with a feeling of "against gravity," allow the individual to enter a subjective state of mind, aware of their body and the present moment.

Suspension is now performed as a form of performance art in many places.
