Rope Anatomy

Terms

Bight : the middle of the rope (usually in a folded position)
Loop: Continuing by drawing a circle at the point where the rope intersects
Standing End: The part of the rope we haven't tied yet
Hitches: Knots are used to tie a rope to an object or another rope.

Nodes

Single Column Tie: It is one of the most basic and simplest nodes.
Box tie, Kate-Kote Shibari, Gote Shibari, Munenawa: It's a classic technique that involves tying the hands behind the back.
Futomomo Shibari : These are the knots that connect the calf and the leg.
Hog Tie (Pig tie), gyaku ebi: A type of binding where the torso is secured to the ankles.
Ebi shibari : This is a cross-legged binding method that involves bending the person forward and connecting the neck and chest to the ankles.
Crotch rope (groin tie), matanawa: It is a type of fastening that is passed through the groin area and secured to the waist or back.

Techniques

Hojojutsu, Torinawa jutsu: A traditional Japanese martial art developed to restrain a person using a single strand of rope.
Floorwork (floor bindings), Neweza: A general term for all types of tethering done on the ground or in a bed that do not require suspension.
Suspension, Tsuri: Binding methods that involve partially or completely suspending a person from gravity by hanging them from any equipment or point.
