Ushoro Takete Tasuki-Gake

We'd like to briefly discuss the designs developed by Grandmaster Akeshi Denki, which are widely used today. Let's look at the details of this binding style, which is decorative and an improvement on the traditional 2K Takate Kote.

Tasuki

This technique, called Ushoro Takete Tasuki-Gake, is essentially a kimono design. Designed to emphasize tradition, a Tasuki (the cord in the picture) is added, consisting of strips that run from the back to the front, over the shoulders.

Akechi Denki, deviating from traditional hojojutsu, placed emphasis on the aesthetics of the back of the bind. The diamond-shaped decoration on the back of this bind is like Denki's personal signature and a common feature of all his binds. After Akechi-Denki's death, it was used only by Akechi-ryu (Ryu; school/institution) students, including Kanna. Later, Hajime Kinoko learned this technique from Kanna and introduced it to Europe. The bind gradually came to be seen and practiced as the standard TK bind. The completed front and back of the TK bind are shown in the image.
